2. HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION


2.1 Health Effects - Acute

Swallowed

Low toxicity. If ingested abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea may occur, accompanied by irritation to the mouth and throat, shock and convulsions and possible complications including liver damage with jaundice, hypertension and renal failure. May lead to coma and death.

Eye

May irritate eyes.

Skin

May irritate skin.

Inhaled

Dust may be irritating. Coughing and sore throat may occur.

2.2 Health Effects - Chronic

Primary route of exposure is inhalation and skin and eye contact. No specific data is available for the product for chronic symptoms. The materials in this product are not considered to be carcinogenic by the Worksafe lists (May 1995).

2.3 First Aid

Swallowed

If swallowed and if more than 15 minutes from a hospital induce vomiting, preferably using Ipecac Syrup APF.

Eye

If this product comes into contact with eyes, hold eyes open and wash continuously for 15 minutes with running water. Ensure irrigation under eyelids by occasionally lifting eyelids. Do not attempt to remove contact lenses unless trained. Transport to a hospital or doctor immediately.

Skin

If this product comes into contact with skin, wash skin with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and footwear. Ensure contaminated clothing is thoroughly washed before using again. Transport to hospital or doctor if symptoms develop.

Inhaled

If fumes or combustion products are inhaled, remove to fresh air. Lay victim down and keep warm and rested. If breathing is shallow, or has stopped, ensure clear airway and apply resuscitation. Transport to a hospital or doctor immediately.

First Aid Facilities

Ensure an eye bath and safety shower are available and ready for use. Keep an emergency supply of IPECAC Syrup on hand at all times.

4.3 Spills and Disposal

Spills

Clean up personnel should wear full protective clothing including breathing apparatus. Prevent spillage from entering drains or water courses.

Stop leak if safe to do so, and contain spill. Sweep up and shovel or collect recoverable product into labelled containers for recycling or salvage. Recycle containers wherever possible. After spills, wash area, preventing runoff from entering drains. Launder all contaminated clothing before reuse.

Disposal

Dispose of in accordance with all Local, State and Federal regulations at an approved waste disposal facility. This material may be suitable for approved incineration or landfill.

4.4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD

Fire / Explosion

Product is non combustible by may decompose to give off toxic fumes of Sulphate and Zinc oxides. Hazardous polymerisation has not been known to occur. Avoid contact with incompatible materials such as strong acids and strong alkalis.

Fire-fighters should wear full protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. Use equipment/media appropriate to surrounding fire conditions.
